  30. Most 3DS plugins list for $495 or less. Anything more than that in the 3DS
  31. market and people won't buy it. XAOS had Pennello for 3DS at $995 and it
  32. didn't sell, now it goes for $395.

  42. I brought this up a few weeks ago and several people jumped all over my ass.
  43. Now that an actual LW plugin developer has brought the issue into the open
  44. we'll see how things go. It seems you can't have a realistic talk about LW
  45. pricing and its future without being attacked.

  47. I anxious to see what NewTek has at NAB. Their future is in the Windows
  48. NT/95 market. They have a lot of legacy Amiga Toaster/Flyer owners that
  49. sooner or later are going to be put on the back burner. With Video
  50. Toaster/Flyer sales at a virtual stand still they cannot afford to continue
  51. development. 
  52. Essentially they are making a product (Flyer) that they do not have a market
  53. for. All the people that are going to buy Amiga Flyers already have them.
  54. What kind of user looking for a new system is going to invest in the Amiga?
  55. A 4000T for $2700 can't compare to a Pentium machine. The PC Flyer is going
  56. to have a very hard time competing in the Windows world. The Windows/NT NLE
  57. market is where the real competition is, the Flyer on the Amiga has no
  58. competition (oh yea, the VLAB). The PC Flyer will be an also ran when put up
  59. against the Perception, Plum, Targa 1000/2000, Media 100, etc.

  61. My predictions for the future.

  63. LW for Windows 95/NT will be the bulk of sales. Windows 3.1 support is no
  64. longer necessary, it slows down LW and speed is the issue when doing 3D.

  66. Amiga versions of LW will lag behind for various reasons - hardware sales
  67. are non-existent, compilers are dated, hardware/OS will hold back features.
  68. Should NewTek cripple Windows/NT versions to have the same feature set for
  69. all versions of LW?

  71. SGI versions will quietly disappear - no plugin support, higher price of SGI
  72. hardware vs. performance compared to Alpha. Why spend the extra money just
  73. to run it on SGI equipment? Unless you have access to a bunch of SGI boxes.

  75. Alpha/NT versions will continue because of high profile users, the Alpha/NT
  76. version is trivial to do when you already have Intel/NT version. The Pentium
  77. Pro boxes will make it difficult to justify an Alpha when you consider how
  78. many programs don't run on the Alpha (FX32? We'll see).
